McKenna's Position on Celtic

The Ipswich boss described the Glasgow giants as "an enormous football club" but stressed he is "deeply involved" of a "extensive rebuilding" with the Championship side.

The mid-thirties assumed control of Ipswich in 2021 and guided the team to the English top flight with back-to-back promotions, but they managed only four games last season as they were relegated back to the Championship and they presently occupy 12th in the Championship.

"There have been any of those discussions," the London-born former Irish young player said when asked about being on the candidate list.

"This isn't a matter I have considered seriously, or where any portion of my concentration is currently.

"I have a unique position here at a special club. And we're at a crucial stage of the campaign. Everything external hasn't touched my radar."

Context and Agreement Aspects

It has been suggested that McKenna would be open to speaking to Celtic given his childhood support.

"During youth, we all have our preferences," he said when asked about these. "I don't think everyone has to go around and announce what they used to be, but naturally it's a really big football club."

The coach signed a fresh multi-year deal in last year and was questioned about his reported £5m release clause.

"In every manager's contract, there are provisions," he replied. "I don't know what mine are and, were I informed, I wouldn't tell you regardless!

"I tackle this job like I will remain Ipswich manager forever. I understand that's not always going to be the case, but I will consistently give maximum effort as long as I remain in position."

Bellamy's Position

The former striker represented the Hoops on temporary transfer from Newcastle United in 2005, but the ex- Welsh striker is inclined to complete the ongoing World Cup qualification, a position that would practically eliminate the 46-year-old from assuming the Glasgow position.

The Welsh squad are currently in third place in their World Cup group behind group toppers the Red Devils and runners-up North Macedonia.

Wins over Liechtenstein and North Macedonia in next month would book their place in the qualification play-offs, but they are all but assured of making those, due to a successful Nations League performance, should they not finish as their group second place.

Given his present position, Bellamy, whose contract concludes after Euro 2028, would not be available until following the play-offs at the earliest.
