Two Victims Identified in the Ivy League School Shooting as Police Persist in Hunt for Perpetrator.

The pair of scholars who lost their lives in the weekend's violent attack in Providence had tributes paid to them on Monday – amid a widespread hunt for their killer persisted following the release by authorities in Rhode Island of the only individual of interest in the case.

Tributes for Ella Cook

Ella Cook, a second-year scholar from Alabama, was remembered as “a wonderful, steady, devout, shining presence”, according to the Advent Cathedral in Birmingham, which honored her memory at a ceremony on Sunday.

She served as second-in-command of Brown’s chapter of College Republicans of America, according to the organization. The White House press secretary also posted condolences publicly, remarking: “There are no words. Thinking of her loved ones and companions, above all her mom and dad.”

MukhammadAziz Umurzokov

The other person killed was an Uzbek national named MukhammadAziz Umurzokov, from Uzbekistan in his first year of studies at the prestigious university, family members said.

Umurzokov’s identity was confirmed by the foreign office of Uzbekistan.

“He was incredibly kind, funny, and smart. His ambitions were lofty of entering the field of neurosurgery and aiding others,” his sister, Samira Umurzokova said in a online post.

The Shooting Incident

Nine more persons were injured in Saturday’s attack in the engineering building of Brown’s grounds in Providence, during the institution's end-of-term tests.

Authorities said by the end of Sunday that a 24-year-old male detained in a search at a Hampton Inn about approximately 17 miles from the scene earlier in the day was being released.

“A perpetrator remains free,” said Rhode Island’s attorney general, Peter Neronha.

He continued, “Investigations can lead one way, and then you must reassess and go in another, and that is the current situation over the last approximately one day.”

Public Fear

The city's mayor, Brett Smiley, acknowledged: “This will probably generate fresh anxiety for our public”.

The assailant discharged a weapon inside a classroom in the engineering facility on Saturday, shooting over four dozen bullets from a 9mm handgun, a police source told the Associated Press.

Law enforcement that entered the lodging recovered two firearms and two ammunition clips when the suspect was detained, as was reported.

Condition of the Injured

Regarding the nine injured, one pupil was released from the hospital, stated Christina Paxson, Christina Paxson. Seven others were in serious yet stable state, and one remained in critical care, police said on Sunday.
