The network's Premier New Show of This Year Earns a Substantial Renewal for Two More Seasons.

During the fall season, the late-night programming block debuted a new season of its unconventional hit, Smiling Friends. However, shortly thereafter, the network unveiled a fresh animated series with a strikingly different tone. Haha, You Clowns was sweet and soothing, reminiscent of a animated take of a serene talk show. In an era often marked by dark humor, this show's wholesomeness resonated deeply and propelled it a breakout hit.

A Significant Investment

On December 18th, the network revealed exciting news: Haha, You Clowns has been picked up for a further two seasons. This gives showrunner Joe Cappa a massive runway to develop the world of the Campbell family. The series follows three polite teenage brothers whose defining trait is their profound affection for their single father, with Cappa providing the voices for all four main characters.

"My deepest thanks go to the audience of the show who took a chance on the show and helped it grow," stated Cappa. "I’m incredibly thrilled that I get to spend more time in the Campbell household for a little longer."

Executive Acclaim

In the same announcement commendation from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who called the series as "profoundly sincere and oddly captivating." He specifically highlighted the fans who found the show and championed its uniquely offbeat style.

"All of you supported this new show, praised it on social media, and expanded its audience week over week so we could greenlight not one, but two more seasons," noted Ouweleen. "In the words: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"

A Wholesome Alternative

When it first aired, Haha, You Clowns was hailed as "a comforting antidote" to more cynical adult animated fare. There’s something surprisingly comfy about watching this charming family navigate their simple existence.

In earlier interviews, creator Joe Cappa expressed his desire to move the comedy genre beyond its long-running layer of irony. He traced this trend to the rise of certain blockbuster franchises.

“We're stuck in a cycle of irony that we are trapped in,” explained Cappa. “The attitude is that we have to know we’re the cleverest viewer in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for too long, and we just have to laugh at something different now. Comedy has to evolve.”

Future Seasons

With this renewal, with Haha, You Clowns locked in for the future, Cappa may well catalyze that very evolution. At a minimum, the renewal guarantees audiences additional episodes to enjoy the gentle humor of the endearing Campbell clan.

The season 1 finale of Haha, You Clowns is scheduled to air on December 21st. All episodes is currently streaming on HBO Max.
