The Gory Animated Movie Ending That Haunts Audiences
Out of every mature animated films I’ve personally watched, nothing has remained with me quite like the fear-filled finale of the explicitly bloody as well as overwhelingly transgressive 2022 movie Unicorn Wars.
Back in 2015’s, the Spain-based writer-director created a dark, bleak , frequently brutal universe that included several minor , desolate twinges of hope.
Although Unicorn Wars seems like it originated from an impulse to advance animation further, the filmmaker clarified that it was more an effort to communicate a widespread, multicultural theme concerning “the common origin of all wars.”
This theme is conveyed via a band of brightly hued teddy bears , openly based on a famous line of cuddly characters.
Being raised in a society centered on aggression and the defense industry, a lot of the bears are obsessed with killing unicorns, due to a religious scripture that claims them they used to be kings of the woodland, before the horned beings drove them out.
A few did not entirely fallen for the propaganda, , choose to try out drugs and engage sexually in the forest.
In contrast to their cuddly counterparts, these vivid animals have visible sexual organs , definite libidos.
For a certain notably brutal, cynical bear, Bluey, the war against unicorns becomes a path to power — and particularly to dominance over his more tender, kinder brother the bear Tubby.
This bear is a bully , an obvious antisocial figure , and while fear overcomes his group and takes his fellow soldiers sequentially, he takes progressively control on his own behalf, via progressively bloody, damaging approaches.
Simultaneously, these mythical beings are enduring their own terror, as a growing, harmful creature in their woods.
“Initially, it appears as a humorous movie,” the filmmaker commented. “Yet it evolves into a more serious and melancholic film. And by the end, it becomes a horror film.”
The Unicorn Wars begins feeling a bit like one of the more quirky features by an iconic animator, that discover a naughty glee in permitting drawn beings curse, shoot each other, or have intimate relations.
Afterward it turns into closer to a bleaker movie from the same director, featuring progressively graphic violence and a tangible link to the real tragedy of conflict.
By the end, it is a full-on extreme drama massacre.
The horror which makes this an ideal spooky-season watch kicks in much sooner than indicated.
Unicorn Wars is ideal for the devoted fans of gore, for fans of extreme cinema who desire to view something they have not viewed until now, and who can handle a narrative that offers no restraint.
View it with the lights off free from interruptions, and the conclusion will dig under your skin and take up residence there.
