Slot Maintains He Is Safe and Has The Club's Support After PSV Eindhoven Humiliation
The Liverpool head coach conceded that it was expected for concerns to be asked about his position following another heavy loss against PSV Eindhoven.
The Reds endured their ninth defeat in twelve games, marking the club's worst streak after being demoted in 1953-54.
They were outplayed by the Eredivisie title holders on a tough night at Anfield.
“I feel secure, I am OK, I've received a lot of backing from management,” Slot remarked.
“It would be great to turn it around and secure a win of course but when you're in a managerial role and underperforming then it's typical that doubts arise.”
He noted, “I'm comfortable with my situation. It is not the initial instance I’ve been in a difficult position but it's crucial that we turned it around.”
Conversations with The Board
Upon being questioned to expand on his discussions with the Liverpool hierarchy, Slot said:
“We communicate frequently. They are supportive for the squad and for me and we discuss these matters but they don’t call me every single minute each day to say they have faith in me.”
He further stated, “During our regular exchanges I sense the confidence. However I haven’t spoken to them since this game yet so let’s see.”
Familiar Issues and Squad Reaction
Slot highlighted familiar weaknesses from his team in their Champions League loss, specifically missed opportunities and conceding too easily.
Meanwhile, midfielder Curtis Jones was more direct in his assessment of the club’s predicament.
“I don’t have the solutions. Truthfully, I do not. I'm telling that to all,” Jones remarked.
“It's simply unacceptable. I don’t even have to wait to consider it. I'm beyond getting mad internally. I've reached the stage now where I simply lack the phrases.”
He added, “It's tough because I play for the side I follow. I’m a fan, and I've watched this club for years.”
“In recent memory, I haven’t experienced a Reds side experiencing a period of this nature with performances this poor.”
He finished, “However we still have the emblem on our chest. And until it is gone, we'll continue to battle.”
“Our aim is to get this team return to its rightful place, demonstrate to all once more what this club is about and why people call it the best team in the planet.”
“However currently, things are bad and it needs to change.”
