Fighters smirk as they move on the bed of a pick-up truck, hurrying past a line of several corpses and heading in the direction of the descending African sunset.

"Look at this extensive accomplishment. Look at this instance of mass destruction," a fighter shouts.

The fighter grins as he turns the video equipment on his person and his fellow combatants, their paramilitary insignia on display: "They will all perish in this manner."

These individuals are exulting in a atrocity that relief organizations suspect claimed the lives of over 2,000 people in the Sudanese city of el-Fasher in recent weeks.

A City Cut Off from the World
