Weather experts are reporting a frosty beginning to the new year, with wintry precipitation likely throughout a lot of the UK. Celebrants are being urged to dress warmly as sub-zero temperatures are expected for New Year's Eve.

Festive Events Go Ahead Despite Warnings

Edinburgh's renowned Hogmanay festivities are planned to go ahead, following last year's calling-off. This is in spite of yellow warnings for snow in northern Scotland.

"An icy New Year's Eve night for those partying, so extra layers will be necessary," said the national forecaster.

Displays Under Clear but Frosty Skies

Across the UK, the weather is expected to be perfect for fireworks shows, with dry conditions and good visibility. The mercury are forecast to be low, so additional clothing vital, as per forecasters.

To the north, conditions will be cloudier, but this is not anticipated to hamper visibility for viewing fireworks. "We are not looking at low cloud, mist or murk, so you should be able to see fireworks, just not stars," remarked one forecaster.

Moving into Friday, weather warnings have been issued across Northern Ireland and stretching from Wales, through the north-west, the West Midlands and reaching London and the majority of the south-east of England.
