Line of Duty Confirmed for Seventh Season on the British Broadcaster
The acclaimed police drama Line of Duty will make a comeback for its 7th season, announced by the BBC.
A brand new six-episode season written by the show's creator will begin filming in Northern Ireland this spring, according to the network.
The actress shared her enthusiasm about the comeback, saying she was "so excited" about the series' return. Adrian Dunbar added, "How wonderful it is to know that the main trio will be back filming together next year."
The previous series concluded in 2021 with a finale that attracted more than 17 million viewers. Speculation about a potential return have been circulating ever since, but confirmation only came recently.
Fresh Obstacles for AC-12
The seventh season begins with AC-12 no longer existing and rebranded as the Inspectorate of Police Standards, as revealed by the announcement.
Steve Arnott, Vicky McClure's role, and Adrian Dunbar's part remain working to tackle misconduct within the police force.
Their work "has never been more difficult", and under these circumstances, the trio are assigned their "most sensitive case to date."
Fresh Face and Intricate Plot
A new character, Det Insp Dominic Gough, portrayed as a charming officer celebrated for takedowns of criminal networks, is accused of abusing his position to become a offender.
Yet, his case could be a intentional diversion from a larger danger still operating in the shadows, plot details hinted.
In a statement, Jed Mercurio said: "All cast and crew feels enormous gratitude to the show's fans."
"It's an honor to have had countless fans track the developments of AC-12 over multiple series and we are thrilled to be returning for a seventh season."
He added: "Corruption in this country was thought to be over while the series was not airing, so I've been compelled to use my imagination."
Actor Responses
Martin Compston described being part of the series as "a job of a lifetime".
"Beyond the show's success but the people I've worked with I now call dear friends."
"I'm excited to pull the waistcoat on again and get the team back together," he said.
The Nottingham-born actress stated: "Obviously I'm so excited Line of Duty is back! Can't wait to work with the creator, Compston and Adrian again. The city, we'll see you soon!"
The veteran actor noted: "While anticipating the AC-12 return, what a joy it is to know that the Three Amigos will be working together soon."
"Delighted with the announcement and looking forward to those unexpected plot developments."
Series Legacy
Line of Duty launched in the early 2010s and became a highly successful TV dramas of the past ten years, attracting notable actors such as Thandiwe Newton.
The BBC has not yet announced when the new season will hit screens.
The conclusion of series six drew the long-running storyline about the hunt for kingpin known as "the mysterious H" to a conclusion, and producers indicated at the time there were no intentions for further series.
Nevertheless, the corporation confirmed on Tuesday that a new season is now being produced.
