LA Faces Historic Heat Just One Week After Severe Winter Weather.
In the wake of heavy downpours that resulted in floodwaters across parts of the city, the City of Angels is now confronting abnormally high temperatures for late February.
Record-Shattering Readings
During the day Friday, the mercury soared to ninety-one degrees Fahrenheit in central LA, according to weather officials. This easily surpasses the old record for February 27th, which was eighty-eight degrees Fahrenheit and was established in 2025.
"Very warm conditions" were highlighted on official charts for the region.
Public Health Advisories
The weather service stated that Friday's conditions posed an "elevated risk for heat illness" for people sensitive to heat. Their advice included:
- Drinking plenty of fluids.
- Avoiding outdoor activities during the peak heat of the day.
- Not leaving kids or animals unattended in a parked vehicle.
A Sharp Weather Swing
This dramatic increase in heat follows closely after a powerful winter storm that pummeled the area recently. That storm brought high winds, thunderstorms, and significant snowfall to mountainous regions, leading to flash flood warnings for countless residents.

Weekend Outlook
Looking ahead some relief will arrive. The heat were expected to fall to around 61°F (16°C) in the city by Friday night.
Additional areas that hit 90°F included Burbank, Woodland Hills, and Long Beach. Meanwhile, Westwood, Camarillo, Santa Maria, and Oxnard were expected to reach the high eighties.
In the coming days, downtown LA can see temperatures in the 80s, with a further cooldown expected for the week ahead.
