Jurgen Klopp says coming back to manage Liverpool is plausible in theory.
The German coach, who stepped down from Anfield in 2024, remarked that a future comeback remains a possibility. The 58-year-old, after a transformative nine-season tenure that included continental glory and ending the club's long wait for three decades, has since taken on roles in a global football capacity within the Red Bull organization and providing guidance to Germany's league body.
Fan Sentiment and His Frank Comments
Liverpool won the Premier League in the previous campaign, though countless followers who revere Klopp would be thrilled by the idea of his potential comeback. During an extensive chat, he explained to Steven Bartlett: “I stated I will never coach a different club within the country. Therefore if then it’s Liverpool...absolutely. It's plausible.”
“At 58 years old, so I might decide in a few years, who knows. Must I choose now? If so, I wouldn't return. Fortunately, I don’t have to do that. I'll wait and observe how things unfold.”
What Would Lure Him Back?
Pressed on the specific conditions would have to unfold to draw him back to the dugout, Klopp admitted he was not instantly drawn to such a return. “It's unclear to me, I enjoy my current role,” he commented. “I don’t miss coaching; I avoid standing in the rain through long matches; I don’t miss going to media briefings four times, three times a week or having 10-12 interviews each week.
“No nostalgia for the changing area in that context, yet sharing a meal with the players having a nice chat, that’s nice. Success was frequent so there was often great spirits around the place. I can still hear Virgil [Van Dijk’s] laugh in my ear as an instance.”
Commending Arne Slot
He spoke highly regarding Arne Slot, praising him for the tweaks which secured the championship last campaign. They've been defeated four consecutive matches in every contest post heavy investment, though he denied the idea that it might signal a slump.
“[Liverpool have] an incredible striker such as Wirtz, you will all eat your words with negative comments. A remarkable prospect. Ekitike, excellent performer. They have a strong well-judged squad. Fans shouldn't fret about Liverpool, they'll bounce back.”
Emotional Tribute for the Late Forward
The manager expressed deep feeling about the death of Jota, a player he signed in 2020, and its impact at the club. Jota died tragically in a vehicle collision with his brother recently.
“How do you replace somebody like Diogo? This isn't just regarding his footballing ability, his personality mattered. It's hard to picture the dressing room without him in it. I still cannot speak properly on this topic. A profound tragedy for the entire squad too. No one within the club would cite it to justify results but it is the situation. Entering the changing area where he was omnipresent. Handling this emotionally is challenging. Unbearable.”
