Jets Head Coach Glenn Confident Kris Boyd Will Recover Fully After New York City Shooting

New York Jets coach Aaron Glenn revealed that he recently spoke with defensive back Kris Boyd and feels certain the player will be OK after being shot in central New York early Sunday morning.

Glenn described that Boyd, currently in the hospital, was “positive” during their recent conversation.

“That’s what eases my mind, is that he’s feeling positive,” Glenn commented. “His wife and child, they are doing well and he is expected to recover fully.”

It remained unclear when Boyd could be discharged the medical facility, where he is reported as critical but stable.

“Not certain at the moment,” the coach said. “Yet I must mention, just talking to him, his attitude was encouraging. And again, that’s what gives me comfort, that he feels like that and he expresses himself so positively.”

Authorities issued security footage earlier this week of a man sought in the shooting of Boyd. What prompted the attack is currently under review and authorities said it remains uncertain if Boyd was targeted. No one else was hurt were reported.

The incident occurred in the early morning on Sunday near the famous arena and the iconic square. Boyd, twenty-nine, was admitted to Bellevue Hospital after suffering a wound to the stomach, police said. The perpetrator got away.

Glenn said Boyd has been on his mind “a ton” since the news broke. The coach said that Boyd and his wife just had a baby.

“The first thing I thought about, he just had a kid,” Glenn noted. “I thought of his spouse, considering his child and I hope he recovers fully. Those thoughts dominated my thinking.
“There’s a process to this, that I won’t detail, but I’m happy at the fact that he will recover excellently.”

Boyd hasn’t played during the current season, after joining the team, after going on the season-ending injured reserve list on 18 August with a shoulder issue that needed an operation.

He joined the Jets as an unrestricted free agent in spring and was projected as an important component of the team’s updated special teams under Glenn and ST coordinator the special teams coach. Unfortunately, he sustained an injury during preseason drills on 2 August and was taken away on a cart.

Boyd continued to be present all season long while healing from his surgery.

“He has stayed engaged with the team,” Glenn said. “In fact, he attends every game. He’s fully engaged. As one of the league’s best on special teams, he has been instrumental in guiding others.”

Boyd, hailing from the Lone Star State, played his first four seasons with the Vikings after being a seventh-round pick by Minnesota out of the University of Texas in the 2019 draft. He signed with the Arizona Cardinals in 2023 and later was with the Texans subsequently. Boyd signed a one-year contract for $1.6 million with New York in the spring.
