Battlefield 6's Casual Playlist Ignites Heated Discussions Regarding Bots, Experience Points, and Queue Times
Recently, Battlefield Studios launched a fresh playlist titled Casual Breakthrough. In essence, this mode resembles the regular Breakthrough format but features several notable adjustments:
- Each team has only eight real players, with the remaining filled by AI-controlled opponents.
- Actions done by human gamers award full XP, while AI activities provide reduced XP.
- Only two maps are available: Cairo Siege and Empire State.
- Elements like Dogtags, accolades, and stat tracking have been turned off.
So essentially, this mode delivers on its title: it offers a laid-back version of Breakthrough. On the surface, you might think it's a good idea, since it gives additional choices for players seeking different methods to have fun with the title. However, if video games has shown one thing, it's that not everyone will be happy. In other words, many BF6 fans are upset.
Player Responses: Anger to Support
"People want real players. Don't repeat the mistakes of your rivals," reads one reply to the mode reveal. "Absolutely shocking concept," says another. Meanwhile, on the Battlefield subreddit, a player notes, "It's unclear where we are headed with this game," and another details all the issues they consider to be problematic in Battlefield 6: "Fix bugs, fix drone glitch, fix IVF rockets, adjust aiming after sprinting, improve hit detection. We do not require this AI-heavy playlist."
On the other hand, for every complaint, some gamers sharing how much they're liking the recent addition. "It's enjoyable to warm up, human participants prevent it from being a total farmfest but it's quite laid-back," says a forum post. "This subreddit fails to see that there are players who actually go outside and can't play this title all the time. Allow them to strike a balance," states a different comment. One reply via social media clarifies that as they're "a battledad with busy schedules, this is perfect for me," while another applauds the mode for "not being overcompetitive."
Valid Concerns and Player Feedback
Despite the support, players have constructive reasons to criticize the new mode. A few folks have highlighted that it could increase wait times even longer for other modes due to the large amount of playlists currently available. On a similar note, certain regions often face AI-filled matches in the existing playlists. It also seems somewhat counterintuitive that the mode does not begin without a minimum number of human gamers, despite it focuses mostly on fighting AI opponents.
Lastly, one of the biggest grievances is that Battlefield Portal was meant to provide complete rewards, even against bots, but that was removed when they tried to eliminate XP farming from the system. Thus this new playlist feels like the player base meeting them in the middle, as per a Reddit comment. A different user labels this addition as the developers "dropping the ball so hard, I had so much fun in the initial release, why did they feel the need to change it?"
Looking Ahead: Adjustments Be Made?
If Battlefield Studios has proven anything so far with Battlefield 6, it is that they're paying attention and acting on player input. Tasks that were overly hard were adjusted very quickly, just like the required Redsec challenges. Chances are that, should analytics indicates this recent mode isn't performing to their standards, they will not hesitate to change it again.
